Coupling issue?

At last nights gig, I had a difficult time hearing myself. I set my amp the same way every time, running my bass through a Sansamp, into a GK MB500 and Hartke 410. The only changes I usually make to levels are the level control on the SA and a little dialing on the bass, an active Carvin B5. But last night, with my settings at their usual settings I got a low frequency rumble. The stage was a raised wooden floor with a roof over it (yes, a roof INSIDE) and, to keep it from coupling with the raised floor I left it setting on my wheel board. I told the sound guy about it and we spent the first two sets troubleshooting the issue, trying EQ adjustments etc. I thought raising the cab off the floor would help, but maybe it made it worse? I noticed it was worse when the drummer was really getting into the music and paying hard. Maybe a freq issue with the kick drum and the bass?

What do you guys think?

This is exactly why so many are migrating to in ear monitors, or small combos raised to ear level. It's hard to control a huge rig in some environments.

Acoustic de-coupling requires 2.5ft for bass waves.

Probably the venue subs getting the stage going. Possibly not audible in the room.

Drums making it worse sounds like it could even have been all drums all along. Always mute the bass and see if a rumbling goes away before blaming the bass.

Floor coupling is hardly ever it.
Have to agree with raising or pointing the amp right at your ear, or IEM
Whatever it sounds like to you it may not sound like that out front. That is the sound engineers job.

If you just have to have a loud bass amp, print of copy of this to haul around and experiment with where you place your amp

Thanks for the suggestions and tips guys. Tonight was better. I sat the cabinet off of the stage to the side on a road case. It was about 4-5 feet away from me tonight as opposed to around 2 feet like last night. I think he subs were kickin pretty good too. I put my foot on one of them during one song and it was thumping pretty good. The sound guy said last night that it sounded fine out front. It was just on stage where I was having issues.

It was just weird because the last time we played there I had the same rig with the same settings and didnt have the problem. Just one of those nights I guess.
