Covers that make you angry.

I would submit that the performance in question has seemed to evoke a strong emotional response in the OP. Mission accomplished! The fact that you didn't like it has little bearing......

But if you had been around when the song came out it was played on a 8 track in a Trans Am by a white trash GED guy with a ball cap, wife beater, a sweatband, and a mom tattoo.
Not much has changed I guess. I had the original when it came out and even have the cd on my phone now. Good album.
You never did answer what exactly is wrong with that cover. The singing isn't bad, the music is hardened up and modernized but close enough to the original.
I think you are just too cool for FFDP. I just call them as I hear them.

... Yeah you caught me. I do hate FFDP. I hate the name, I hate the fans, and I hate the music. Hearing the song makes me mad because I think about how much I hate the band and the name and the fans. The fact that I really enjoy the original is just an extra kick in the nuts.

Well, maybe not exactly on topic, but i was on holiday during new year's eve and the hotel booked an artist. Basically this women had some kind of tablet computer rigged to her mic stand and that's where all the music came from. Her singing was mediocre during the easy songs and hands down awful when she tried something a little more demanding. The crowd went along with it (Ok, it was an all inclusive hotel and the staff was busy handing out booze to the masses, so spirits were high). That got me angry for reasons any fellow musician should understand. I guess her fee was well below that of a four or five piece band and she did something that can, under the principle of charity, be described as live music. All i saw was a mediocre singer on stage while somewhere, a band went without a new years' gig.

Y'all got nothing here.

Hate. Eyebleed, ripsnort, hate?

Take a little trip back in time. Tape players are not standard in cars.

Mountains did, and still do, make it hard to get much in the way of radio stations.

On the biggest hunk of rock in new england sat the highly-endowed transmitter of the most evil, scum-sucking radio station known to man.

WHOM

All, day, everyday, 101 strings orchestra (and perhaps a few indistinguishable competitors) murdering anything. Beatles - murdered. Simon and Garfunkle - slain. You think elevator music is bad now - you have not lived through 1960's-70's elevator music. Mind you, it probably was the last straw for a few people on the edge, so they didn't. This was not classical music - it was whatever was popular, chewed up and spat out by a smarmy orchestra. That, my friends, is a cover leading to hate. And it was the only radio station you could get through large parts of maineiac, new hampster and vemonster, especially when driving.

I suspect the transmitter and call letters are still there, but I'm pretty sure the format finally changed. Lord knows they inspired me to put a tape deck in my first car...

Are you sure you weren't in hell? That sounds like hell.

Can I add to this list:
EVERY XMAS SONG EVER

If one more person asks me to play the mutha******* Seinfeld theme song one more time......

Really? Cuz this cover of the Seinfeld theme is the bizness.

There aren't really any covers that make me angry. There's songs I love that get bad renditions done of them but that doesn't affect how I feel about the original. I guess I could see it if there was an obscure song that you loved that got brought to mainstream attention via a bad cover but I'm struggling to think of a good example of that. Most of the time bad covers are bad enough that I just find them funny. Case in point, Hillary Duff's gawdawful cover of "My Generation" as Greg C mentioned:

almost as funny is Celine Dion doing AC/DC

Personally I find a lot more covers that I dig than ones I hate. Here's a cover of one of my favorite songs that I think is awesome.

Just had to jump in and say that I think "She Will have Her Way" is one of the most brilliant pop songs of the last couple decades. It's just marvelous and magic from start to finish. Finn's terrific in general, but that song in particular is at the very top of my "overlooked gems" list. I still remember the first time I heard it, it just electrified me.
Yeah i think so,too! I pretty much love the Finns, and CH to pieces....

There is a big difference between a cover I don't like to play and being angry over playing it. How can a cover make you angry if you are in a covers band, especially if you are gigging and being paid for it.
