nothing wrong w/ playing things differently. in fact when I'm in a band who does the same thing, the same way, all the time it gets boring. . . only issue w/ changing up chords and such is it might get tricky w/ subs, but if you're nice and warn the guy shouldn't be that bad of an issue . . .

Jimmy, I never said I use tabs. Just that they are there for people who need them these days.

FYI--Been in this business full-time for over 30 years. Going out tonight to turn down another band's offer in person before my gig.

covers close to note-for-note=OK.

covers deliberately and thoughtfully re-arranged=risky, but often awesome.

covers done wrong out of laziness/incompetence=suck.

it's just called being lazy
most "cover" bands are, which is why most of them are laughable at best

the ones that really stand out are the ones that put in the time to learn the song right and make it sound really good

a lot of guys seem to be in the middle of not being good enough to write their own stuff but are too lazy/untalented to learn a cover song right so this is what you get :scowl:
