Actually, I wasn't referring to anyone specific, but to list some basses and leave out some that are just as good seems like bad advice-I thought that more than one was pushing thier favorite bass, friends who sell them or whatever. Better advice would be to check out the local bass shops nearest to the dirtdog and see what they have. As someone mentioned on this post or on another current post-it's best to buy from a shop where they can be in touch after the sale. My suggestion to Dirtdog would be to try out some basses(if a new bass is the direction the dog is going)get the names and models, then get opinions about the basses from TB. If I were to provide a list, I wouldn't leave out the oldest American maker. It is suspicious to name two basses and several dealers and leave out the most soughtafter bass(older Kay). If it's okay to list what I think would be best for the dirtdog, I would say Engelhardt, Shen, or a Romanian ply. I am assuming that he would go from $750 to no more than $1500. If he could spend more money, then I would recommend the New Standard or the Shen 190. Are we here really trying to help the dirtdog, or what?- this is what I am trying to do, but you have to answer that for yourself. One really needs to work on a bass to get to know it. If you have worked on them and really feel that you are giving good advice to the dirtdog, then my apology. If you are just throwing names out there, leaving out some that are really just as good for a few hundred less than some that you mention, then, yes, you are giving bad advice. IME and IMO Remember Dirtdog- when you pay a few hundred more for a bass that is comparable to others, you are paying for their advertisements and other fees. The two big sellers hardly ever advertise because they don't need to because the instrument does the talking for them from those of us who work on them and play them. Example from something that most will understand:
Why did everyone think that Everready batteries were the best longlasting----why? because Everready spent a lot on advertising saying that they were the best, when in fact the cheapest were just as good and longlasting, made out of the same stuff! Why is Maytag higher? You get the idea...There are makers who have all they can do to keep up with their orders to make a bass and never advertise. I would be suspicious of any maker who promotes all the time. There is either an ego issue or they are trying to fool buyers. IME-IMO
I hope this helps Dirtdog. Again, get your money back- you could find a good used bass for under $1000 also-look around, there are several good used ones for sale-most likely someone on TB would have one.IMO,IME

It's neither necessary nor desirable to list every brand of bass someone like dirtdog or others with similar budgets might consider. I, for one, list the basses that I think are the greatest quality for the dollar. I won't list Engelhardt among, for example, the basses that ehochberg listed (see here), because, IMO, IME, they are poor instruments when compared to the others. That's not a disservice to dirtdog or anyone else. It's my opinion. You don't have to be a luthier or have worked on basses to have a very informed opinion of design and sound. I believe I have one. Others have different opinions and they and you are free to speak here as well. Just because someone does not include the basses in his/her list that you would, does not make that bad advice. By the way, amount of advertising does not correlate positively or negatively with quality and value. Examples abound. You persist in "pushing" a short list of exactly what you sell.

round and round we go... Wayne, youre back here pushin Engel and Shen again. Seems you're back cause it's free advertisin. Last time you said you were so busy you didn't have time fer us crazies. Now guys who don't mention those basses are givin bad advice. times like this Im reminded that DB stands for more than double bass :spit:

Eric, send pm to [email protected] ---Wayne

TB should be closed for the holidays, maybe forever- There is a group of weak men on here who gain strength by banning together and banning anyone who threatens their scheme- Chris and the other Board members are too weak to address it- IMO

If anyone wants to know the truth in detail then PM me at the above address.

There are too many people serving our country for me to stand by and witness you doing this just because you have the freedom to do so. If you don't know what I am talking about- you are not only weak, but you are also very dense. IMO
A farewill note:
Members NOT USING THEIR OWN NAMES should be a red flag to all that there will be clande$tine activity, at best.

The weakest of the minds is yours-- you gotta slam people for their opinions and ya think there is some grand conspiracy, man. Youre way out there and making a damn fool o yourself. As if these discussions got anything to do with the military. uh-- were all "banning" together-- yup-- whole place is corrupt and against little old you. its so bad here but you just cant stay away. I think they have pills that might help ya.

Hope that's really the final farewell note. Oh, and BassLove_ is my real name. :-) BTW, many of the guys know the real names of the members who don't use 'em here-- thats what happens when you actually make friends.

My "scheme" and the one in which most others here seem to want to engage is to have infettered, open, informative, civil, and entertaining discussions free of commercialism. Yes, I don't want anyone to threaten that scheme. If I am considered to be one of the ones engaging in some kind of "clande$tine" activity, then I'd hope that an accuser would have the fortitude to make such an accusation and state the evidence rather than resorting to innuendo.
