I recently sold a bunch of basses. Bought a couple, traded 1……but one of my buyers turned out to be a most interesting chap.

His 1st language was Spanish, so we only communicated over text messaging with a language translator. Initially i though he may be a scammer. I really like to speak directly with my buyers either via phone or FaceTime. I also verify addresses, google earth the receiving address to make sure its real, etc. It just makes for a more personal and safer selling experience.

Well the buyers address was real, valid and appeared safe to ship to. He PayPal’d his payment, and off it went. I tracked it on delivery day and saw a photo of a $3000 bass, leaning against a garage door in Newark NJ. The UPS driver didnt even make the effort to take it to the front door. Unreal. I immediately messaged the buyer and asked if he had it. That led to an incredible exchange of photos…….see for yourself….

The vintage white bass is the one he purchased. Its one of 4 moderns he own…..it was the rack in the back of the picture that made me go……”what da??”

I asked he if could send me a pic of the rack…..well, this is what he sent…..

The 4th Modern 5, an NYC vintage model with an incredible quilt top on a tobacco burst….ok…bu theres more…..

Dude owns basses probably worth more than the tiny apartment he probably rents, and sends pics of the collection to complete randos who have his home address.

Prudence and common sense don’t seem to rank high among his best qualities.

And yeah, publicly posting what he sent doesn’t seem right. He’s (probably) not a celebrity and didn’t post those pics publicly in any case.

Yea, I wouldn’t go pokin around in Newark NJ. “Rando” not withstanding. Might end up badly, if ya know what I mean.
