Crazy idea for a pickup - wondering if possible

Hey guys.

Came up with a crazy idea for a bass pickup - take 2 split P bass pickups, cut the screw holes on the sides, fit them both in one humbucker cover and wire them with positions like this :

1) Full Musicman-style humbucker
2) Split P Pickup (disabling the other P pickup and making it a regular P bass pickup again)
3) Split Jazz pickup (either the 2 top or 2 bottom split P coils)

Is this even possible?

I don't think your pole pieces will line up under the strings...

P style pickups are simply too large to do what you are thinking about. They won't fit.

You can, however, have a quad coil pickup wound to fit whatever humbucker-sized casing you want. That particular configuration is common for quad coils.

Not only possible, it's been done with six 2-string coils under one giant cover.

Another question - does someone sell chrome covers for MM type pickups? to make them look like Les Paul-ish pickups?

What you're describing is a quad coil pickup. Bartolini has made them for years, Lakland used them when they came out with the 4494 back in the 90s. Delano and Nordstrad also make them.
