Cricket World Cup 2007

I only saw one good, close game, with a great atmosphere in the whole thing - England vs West Indies.
The Eng V Sri Lanka Game was also very close.

Ok I'm now getting a clearer picture of where the criticism is coming from. Either way, be very careful when criticising that you explain exactly what you're criticising. Why? Because it's very easy for criticism of the organisers to filter down to become criticism of cricket in general and further to the world cup as a concept. We all want to see the organisers lift their game but no-one wants to see the cricket world cup disappear, which is exactly what will happen if people aren't careful about where they direct their coments.

I don't believe criticism is gong to kill the World Cup - what will kill the World Cup is poor organisation, boring long tournaments with meaningless, dull games and no atmosphere etc. etc.

If the games are overpriced and nobody goes and nobody watches on TV - then it will die!

I think it is in urgent need of criticism to stop this happening - I only hope the ICC are listening to all the criticism I've heard on Radio,TV and Newspapers!

And are doing something about it!

LOL @ Sri Lanka, for complaining about Gilly's use of a squash ball inside his batting glove as "unethical". They'll be complaining about players wearing an undershirt on a cold day next. Oh and maybe someone should check that his underpants were suitable. At the very least any batsman with more than one rubber grip on his bat handle should be suspended for life, as should any batsman AND wicketkeeper found to be using inner-gloves!

:) Clutching at staws at it's best. Personally I'd find a squash ball inside my batting glove to be as usefull as ball-bearings inside my socks, but each to their own...........

Wasn't a certain off spinner with a bent arm ( and bent rules to allow it ) that has chucked his way into the international cricket records book who squeeld by any chance?

Mo
Not to mention a certain fast bowler who's side-arm action raised a few eyebrows initially. If the "wierd but no rule against it" answer works for Malinga, then surely it applies to Gilly's squash ball.

And they call us Aussies sore losers :)

Any thoughts about the Aussie team being told by our Government NOT to tour Zimbabwe?

Damned if they do....and damned if they don't!

I'd have to say the Gov't did the right thing in terms of sending a clear signal to Zimbabwe that Australia will not let Mugabe ( pronounced Moo-guts-ache ) use their sportmen as political statements of one-upmanship. Which he will do!!

Some may think that this is a strange thing to do in a democracy - restrict the freedom of it's citizens, but there are special circumstances here.

In addition, the unenviable decision of tour/no tour is lifted off the shoulders of the sportsmen and the sports bodies they represent and as far as I understand the ruling is "No tour of Zimbabwe" rather than "do not play with Zimbabwe Cricketers"

I wish our Govt had the guts to do stuff the Australians have no second thoughts about, but then again what do you expect from a pack of mambie pambies ruled by a bunch of politically correct lezzos.

LOL..... well we have those here too, and they're crying foul because "What right does the Govt have to ban anyone from going to another country?" It's obvious the Govt imposed the "ban" in agreement with the ACB who can now dodge the political backlash by saying "hey don't blame us, we would have toured, but the Govt told us not to".

Then there was the gesture of offering to play on neutral soil. It was always going to be rejected but it shows the ACB's problem is not with Zimbabwe cricket.

The whole situation is quite sad actually. At least it's drawn attention to the problems over there. I'm not sure most Aussies were aware of how bad things have become in Zimbabwe, but now everyone's in the know.

Totally agree, a sad situation. You know, up until about 4 yrs ago, Zimbabwe was fast becoming a team that had the potential to be another Sri Lanka ( but without bent arms of course ).

Hey....wonder what's going on in Pakistan Cricket right now????

Mo

Please read this post with as much sarcasm as you can muster..............
We are of like mind. Seems some of the betting money found its way to the Carribean.

Did you see the kiwis got into the America's Cup finals and are up against Alinghi - who won it off us last time! Be nice to have that Auld Mug back in the cabinet!

Mo

I think there's some self-delusion going on here - you know that everybody else just calls you smug bastids!! :p

Come on Gov, you know that's only because the world can't beat the kiwis at rugby or sailing and the aussies at cricket.

We have some C grade players that we could loan England to raise your game at least 400%........

:smug: :p

Remember to take it easy, I'm only kidding..... Vegemite is better than that Marmite sludge. Even my spell check is ok with Vegemite and questions Marmite.
