Critically acclaimed albums that I just don't get.

As in…"If she winks an eye the bread slice turns to toast…"?Well, of course. Tutti Frutti makes me think of The Brave Little Toaster

Heres why I feel this particular album is a big deal:
I love Pet Sounds. Having said that, I didn't get it the first time I listened to it (about three weeks ago) , it sounding like a bunch of orquestrated love songs. But delving deeper into the history of the album, how it was made, Brian Wilson,etc I've realized that it is one of the truly ground breaking albums of the last 50 years.
The arrangements, the exotic instrumentation, the way the whole album fits together with a cohesive feel- not like a bunch of songs stuck together, but a soundscape. Considering this was done on tape machines with limited tracks reveals the massive amount of work it must have taken in those days before Protools and digital recording.
As a bass player I find it very interesting that almost all the songs have two or three bass parts: Upright bass, Fender 4 string (Carol Kaye!) , and Six string "tic-tac" bass, often played simultaneously. The bass parts are gorgeous and melodic (Paul McCartney was influenced by them)
I don't even particularly like the "Beach Boys", sure, great harmonies, but surf music? meh. But this isn't a Beach Boys album, it's a Brian Wilson Album with support from the Beach Boys on vocals.
