Crown XLS1500 and BBE B MAX

Crown XLS 1500 with Yamaha PB-1 is my main rig these days. Love it. I generally have to cut the bass and boost the mids and highs though on the PB-1 though.

Bear in mind that on the PB-1 the Treble-Mids-Bass controls are approximately set at 2-10-2 when flat. So you're basically just boosting the highs. Plus you have the parametric Mids control.

I took my PB1+XLS1000 on a gig with my Aguilar DB750. Fingerstyle they were about dead even. Slapping really drew out the differences between the two. I kept the Yamaha+Crown and sold the DB750. Great amp but I got what I wanted out of the pre-power amp setup.

The Yamaha PB-1 is heavier than my Pope preamp or XLS1500 amp. Built like a tank.

What did you hear differently with your slap tone with that pre/power combo over the DB750?

Side note: Ironically I just found my Bmax-T the other day and actually forgot that I had it...LOL I have been using mostly Markbass heads for years now but I tempted to pull out a lead sled and the Bmax for some shows.

Noticeably tighter and clearer sound. I noticed the same thing listening to a friend with a DB751. Nice but not as articulate.

My lead sled is 8 lb.
