CS-3 self mod

Hey, so I have a Boss CS-3 and I'd like to improve it a bit. It's alright, but it could sound better, however I wouldn't like to spend a lot of money.


Anyway, I came across this:

Has anyone tried this? it's relatively cheap.

this would be my first time modding a pedal, ever. is it very difficult? moreover, that's a guitarist website and i don't know whether it will work as well with bass.

im about to get a cs-3 and was wondering the same thing about modding it when i get it so im all ears!

I haven't tried the Indyguitarist mod, but I've done (copied) the Humphrey mod several times, and it's a good thing. It's fairly easy, the only tricky part is a couple of spots where a physically large capacitor is a tight fit, and requires some finagling. Otherwise no biggie.

Actually, looking at my humphrey CS-3 when I had it and the indyguitarist modding pedals pdf they were almost identical. I don't know if either one has changed in the last year or two though.

Just like to say thanks to you (Bongomania) for helping to clarify the world of compression to me on your website - much appreciated.
Never been a massive fan of compression, but have needed one recently due to the material I'm doing.

Bought a cheap CS-3 & modded it as per your instructions, it's pretty good - pleasantly surprised. Could even become a convert!

I would just start listening to old Tony Levin stuff with Peter Gabriel if I was looking for a reason to become a compression convert. These mods seem pretty managable. I might have to try this at some point.
