CS60s in AmStds J and P

I have a 2013 of each and both are set up per Fender spec, but the P has a much more rich tone and the J is pretty dull and polite in comparison. Both have fresh sets of DR Hi-Beams.

Shouldn't they be closer in vibe to each other? I'm going to set the J pups as low as they'll go to try and rule out magnetic dampening ...

Anyone else experience anything similar?

I have a set of DiMarzio Model Js in another bass (CIJ Geddy) and was thinking about seeing what they do.

Ideas?

Try different strings. Dr's were a dud on my American Standard. I have a 2013 as well. CS60s. The pickups are fine. You could have a bad set but that's pushing things. You may need a setup. You may need to adjust pickup height. But strings are probably the problem.
