Another vote for not having the Yin-Yang. As for the designs, I'd have to see it with all the hardware in place but I like the white claws on the neck.

Will this instrument be played in public? Because, seriously, people will judge your music and group before you play a note with those kind of graphics... If that doesn't matter to you, go for it, but the dragon/yin-yang are both symbols that are veeeeeery overused and have really become signifiers for pedestrian aesthetics/pseudo-mysticism. I'm not saying this to be mean or judge, but as a warning that most people won't take someone seriously who is playing an instrument like that, including many other musicians. If that doesn't matter to you, go for it.

I find all three designs much too ornate. They kind of spell wyvern breath. But if you're absolutely going to have a dragon on there, don't make it look like it dropped some claws (or are those teeth?) along the fretboard. The yin-yang symbol is too big anyway, so why not have it as a 12th fret marker and then split it up, with yins going down and yangs going up? That would be nicely symbolic and would clean up the design some.
Edit: I do think the T-bird headstock sits pretty well with the Explorer body for this kind of project, even if Ray Dietrich would probably have nixed it.

I have 50+ basses and I play for fun and this will be an unusual addition to my bass family..there will be some adjustments..thanks for the input !!!

One of the things that you have to factor in is mentally dropping in the bridge, pickups, and controls and where they will be with respect to the graphic. In this respect, I think #6 would look best, after the addition of all the hardware, etc.

If you must have a dragon, IMO it would make the bass look less cluttered if you moved it to the fingerboard portrayed in a stretched serpentine manner and put the yingyang where you right forearm would be.

I'm not a huge fan of any of the options.... I don't mind inlays, but something about your 3 options isn't doing it for me.
Have you considered using a dragon on the fretboard- I know you're a Stanley Clarke fan- how about a dragon like the inlay Alembic has done in the past and did for one of Stanley's basses?

I like the idea and where your going with this. BUT I would opt for a inlay design that flowed more WITH the bass as opposed to just a "picture" somewhat randomly placed on it. ie tail goin up the fretboard and the dragon spreading his wings across the bass.. something like that? Or mabe a Chinese dragon winding around it? You might want to cut out the actual dragon picure first and just get a basic outlay of where you want it to go, white bass and black markings to signify the dragon to get the outlay and give the builder a type of dragon to go with.
I agree that the designs should be shown with hardware and pickups in place, or the dragons face could end up completely covered
