Curbside Freebie

The other day I got a text from a guitar player friend. He’s a UPS driver and found this on the curb. Seeing that he was in his truck, in uniform, he didn’t want to just assume it was free so he went to the door. The owner was giving it away and said “it might need new tubes”. It had some ice in the bottom of the head so no telling low long it was sitting out. I have another friend that builds his own tube amps so I’ll probably ask him to look it over. Nothing that I’ll use for gigs, but it should work well in the practice room.

Sweet; if that head works, you have the rough equivalent of a 50 watt Marshall(with a bit of Fender sparkle on top)...another instance of a “bass” amp being a killer guitar head. Works fine for bass, but I use a pair with twin single 12” cabs for a stereo guitar rig. You can jump/blend the channels, and if it’s salvageable, get a grounded power cable on it.

OP I hate to tell you this, but those old Traynors are junk. Pure junk. Nobody likes them, and that's why they aren't making those heads anymore. But they contain a radioactive substance that only I can dispose of properly. You're gonna have to mail it to me for disposal.

;)

Great find OP and great friend that handed it off to you, plenty of guitarists north (or if you're in Windsor, south) of the border love playing through them, too.

Wow! What a lucky break, hope she works out for you.

wow nice, a poor man's plexi :), i have YBA-1 since the '80's, i don't have the fridge anymore but i still have the head, a few years back i had Andrews amp lab tuned her up for me, man.... instant hard on if you use her for guitar, never did use mine for bass, but for a guitar, you'll be happy. i'm happy with your find, i hope you invest some bucks on her, the head prolly worth anywhere from $400 ~ $800 depending on state.

Boggles the mind why people do that, just ditching something altogether like that.

At least it's not been literally trashed, like the idiots who smash and bash something to smithereens when it's supposedly no longer useful...

Also surprising, given the current age we're in where people figure they can get top-dollar prices for their junk 'cause they saw a mint-one go for that price online...

Congratulations, lucyfur — like so many others will be, I am insanely jealous.

At least near me, people will post on CL as “looking for a good home.”Lucky in this case it ended up in the right hands.
