Man, I ought to start selling capacitors!!! I could make a fortune selling (usually) unnecessary parts to those convinced that every amp needs new capacitors, though this would be a disingenuous (and perhaps immoral) business model.

A REAL tech would evaluate the amp to determine what the problems actually are before selling a customer parts that they think they want because they read about it on the internet, or were told what a great idea it is by a guitarist who has no idea what a cap even is...

So it appears now my friend wants to keep it. He did say the guy that was giving it away also got it for free, put new tubes in it, it didn’t work, and he never did anything else with it. He thinks an animal was using the inside of the cabinet for a toilet, but the Celeston speaker looks to be in good shape. So no early Christmas after all, but at least I’ll be his first call if he decides to get rid of it.

My YBA-1 was built in the late 60's/early 70's. It had been sitting idle, in a warehouse since 1973. When I received it, I took it to Yorkville H/O as it's only about a mile from my home. I asked them to give it a three prong power cord and a once over. They had it for about 5 days as I was not in a hurry to get it back.
Everything was properly cleaned and assessed and it was given a clean bill of health. So as @agedhorse said, you don't know what you need, until someone who knows tells you!
