Cure for Hum?

great post! I just bought a HW1 2006 fender jazz, has some unknown 10 pole pups that sound great, had a custom wire job from what I can tell. 2 vol one for each pup and a tone. Should be blend, vl then tone right? And when the vols are in diffrent positions i get crazy hum at home, not at the store..... maybe need to check the ground in the outlet?

Do you have fluorescent lights at home? Or is the microwave going all day long? Or are you standing an inch away from your amp? Any of the above can cause hum. As can dubious grounding in the house electrical system. One location I play in a lot has fluorescent lights and the power outlets are 2-prong, not 3-prong. Before shielding the noise from my bass was really bad, even WITH humbuckers. After shielding it is silent.

I use seymour duncan stacks and they did wonders for the hum when you solo the pickups but i'd also check your bridge grounding if it's humming when both pickups are on full

It does hum without them all in but again, they magnify it all. What is a Boss NS2? I feel a google coming on

Someone mentioned on the original shielding thread that after a while, the copper foil can come loose, as over time the glue decays. Might be worth it to see if that happened to your bass. Or if a ground wire came loose on the inside.

Well I am gonna take it into work on my nightshifts and have a look anyway. I have plenty of the copper tape left so could do it again if need be.

Anyway off to bed with about 4 NS2's on my ebay watch list lol. Even more money spent due to TB

I had them all unplugged. Straight from bass to amp.
