Ok, so here's what I did. My goal was to buy a very nice bass (preferably a MM Stingray) for a low amount of cash. I live in the Netherlands, so basses are more expensive than in the US (for example: a Stingray on bass central could cost you $1600, here it's AT LEAST 1700 euro).
I saw this Stingray 5 on gbase.com in very good condition, which I bought.
Of course, it was a lot cheaper due to the passive Bartolini-pickup installed. Because of taxes and shipping costs, i finally payed 950 euro.
After a while, I started to dislike it, due to the pickup and the uglyness IMO. So I put it up for sale/trade. Then a guy wanted to trade it for this American Jazz Deluxe. 10 years old, still in absolutely perfect condition.
I loved it, but unfortunately, I acquired GAS for a Bongo. It did not take long to make the decision and put it up for sale or trade. I could believe when a guy wanted to trade me my guitar for this one:
A 2004 Bongo 5 HH! And when I made the trade, it turned out there was a piezo on it too! The B-string on the piezo didn't work actually and it had a ding here and there, but hey, definately more worth than the original 950!
So I was happy with it, untill the 5th string became an annoyance. The Stingray 5 was my first 5'er, and I traded it with a 4-string on purpose. But since the Bongo-deal was so great, I just had to do it, and eventually I could trade it for something bigger.....Also disliked the piezo-B-string.
Took a long time to sell/trade it, but I ended up selling it for 1250. I realised when playing my old OLP, a Stingray was the best bass for me. (GAS, GAS, GAS!)Then I got to make the best deal ever: I bought a Stingray 30th, in absolutely mint condition! With case and candy! And it's got a Hipshot D-tuner aswell!
So this bass right here cost me 950, and cured my GAS! It's the best bass I ever played, and I don't want anything else. I hope this is an inspiring story, so kids, go on a trade adventure!
