I can see what they are trying to accomplish with this certain look for the band, especially when one of their influences are the Strokes. The Strokes just ooze effortlessness and relaxed, and that's probably the vibe they're trying to comp. At the same time, it would be awesome to see a nerd bassist in a band like that.
 
yeah having a set look is for suckers...no real bass player would ever go for that.

really there isn't. truth is look is important, its why fender basses sound better to the audience then that crappy boutique instrument of yours with a name they've never heard. at least these guys have the balls to come out and say it.

Yes. The ad places age, appearance, and behavior over chops without reservation. If it even went as far as to say, "better than marginal bass player" or "someone who doesn't suck", it would be OK.
