Curt Mangan Flat wound Bass Strings - Anybody?

After having done what most people would consider a decent amount of searching... I can't find a single thing regarding these strings. Not a peep... The closest I can come to their flats is a review of the flat wound guitar strings - which seem pretty nice, and I might try them sometime. On a guitar... But, the bass flats? No joy there... So, has anyone here ever tried these things? Are they worth dropping some coin on? Please, help me out here...

Wanted to try them, but they were only available in 45-105 set, and I use lighter gauge flats. If they would have had a 40-100 set, I would have given them a shot. Their round wounds are nice and sound great. However, if you do want to try them, you might want to pick up a set if you see them. I just went to their webpage and could not find any flat wound bass strings listed anywhere. Guessing there was either lack of interest in them or they got too expensive to produce for a smaller scale company.

There have been a few threads about them if I recall. They always seem to come up in the “flats without silks” threads. Most that use them seem to like them. I will try them one day. If I recall, they fit in the more modern flat category like Chromes, EB Group Flats and Fender flats. Not that they necessarily sound like those, but they fit there tonally somewhere.

I haven't tried the Curt Mangans but I tried and really liked another brand of Flats.

I put these on My Mayones Custom shop bass(Pic below) with Aguilar DCB's/OBP3 setup. It truly is the best my Bass has ever been. I feel I got very lucky to find a perfect string for that bass.

Wow, those strings are very low price. If the 4 string sets weren't sold out I'd try them myself.

You could always buy a 5 string set and toss the low B string?

If I'm not mistaken the early Birdsong basses were delivered with Curt Mangan flat wound strings. I had several Birdsongs and still have three. I was very pleased with them; good tension, longevity and sound. I just checked the Birdsong site and did not find a reference to them now. 'Bout all I know.

If they had a thicker set I would have considered trying them when I was experimenting with strings. They have a thicker roundwound set. Oh well.

I managed to find a 45 single to try with other sets that had more growl on the G string, wanting something more mellow on that string. I find my 45 to be more mellow, tending towards a La Bella style tone, but not with the ping of articulation that a set of La Bellas can have. I have not tried their other strings nor an entire set.

Thanks to everybody that replied to this post. I'll add the Curt Mangans to the list of "Flats I Haven't Tried Yet". The Detroit Bass flats, too. Fortunately, the list is... pretty short. Unfortunately, it's long enough to make my credit card squeal like a pig when I buy them...
