Custom bass - new pickups suggestions (any size)

Hey people

I've got a Mexican Jazz bass that I'm plan on modding until it's eventually just the stock body...

I've got Bartolini jazz pickups with the stock preamp at the moment but I need something fatter... really really chunky tone.

I've got a USA Deluxe Jazz with the N3's etc, great for my jazzy tones but I want this bass to have the thickest tone imaginable...
I play everything on this bass from Funeral Doom, techy death metal, even just alternative rock at times

What pickups should I put in? It doesn't worry me if I have to get it re-routed etc, I just want it to sound monstrous

Thoughts so far include;
MM style pickup
Thunderbird style pickups
Ric style pickups?

Combinations of all of the above?
Thoughts?

I'd start with a set of Dimarzio Model Js before you go routing anything.They should hold their resale value pretty well if you don't like them.
