Custom Built Cabinet

Hey all

I got a Peavey TKO and im thinking of building a custom cabinet for it, any ideas of what speakers to go for?

I was thinking af having a 12 and a 10 in the cab, would that be cool, and has anyone ever herd of that, if i dont do that im thinking 2 10's or 2 12's, possibly 4 10's or a 15, but im thinking 10's or 12's to get a lil more mid range going on

here is a pic of my amp, and the cab will prolly be about the size of the dummy one under it

ohh, btw, cab has to be 8 ohms and the amp has a 100w output

The thing under my amp is what i like to call a dummy cab, its just made out of MDF and painted black, as you can see, its a great place to keep patch chords and pedals and whatnot, it also makes it easier to move my amp around and keeps it off the floor for better sound, and it looks killer !!!

thanks for the replies

the dimensions are 22 Wide 25 High and 13 Deep

now i understand that when building a cab there are certain types of wood to use, and proper joining techniques
I'll be buliding the cab at the workshop at my school, where the vareity of tools is endless

i am mainly wondering what speaker combination i should use, that will fin in a cab which is 22" wide

thanks people, and more posts would be appreshiated

with the 8's side by side over top of it
That's the wrong way to mount them, and shows why you need to thoroughly research what you're doing. You don't have to spend the money on a book or two, but you do have to spend the time. Try the local library. The more you read the more you'll realize how much you don't know.

And how much do you know about cabinet design, they are more than a wood box. There are places on the net that sell cabinet plans. Also, but more expensive is software to do speaker cabinet design.

If it was mine I would remove the electronics and make it a head, then buy or build a speaker cab. Also you said you use you dummy cab to sound better. Taking the bass off the floor decouples it and reduces bass response. If that is what you are looking for fine, just be aware raising the cabinet change bass response. Sometimes its done so the bass cab doesn't turn to whole stage into a bass resonator.

and i like having the amp up higher
That's because the midrange frequencies that define tone travel in a straight line from a 15, so if it's on the floor you don't hear them. Having large low frequency drivers down near the floor for boundary reinforcement and small midrange drivers up at ear level is the right way to do it.

question, is 100 watts enough to drive a 15 and 4 10's??

or should i go for something smaller?

i've been doing alot of research, and the only way i can make a 2-10 cab work is to wire 2 drivers (4 ohms each) in series, or 16ohm drivers in parallel, the problem is , 4 and 16 ohm bass speakers arent that common, all i can find are peavey speakers that are 4 ohms and im not sure how good they would be??
