Custom decals please...

That's some nice work. I was working on some of my own decals about a month ago, and it wasn't until I had them completed and applied to my project that I found out the name I chose was already being used by a small guitar shop in florida or something. "Fenderbird" is pretty original sounding though, so you're probably in good shape.

You might also try printing this out on a laser printer onto transparency paper and then applying it with some spray adhesive and a couple of coats of spray poly or varnish to even the edges.

here's mine:

Tweaked some more

JehuJava,
That is awesome!! Sorry, I didn't reply sooner. I had stopped watching the thread after getting your emails. That is just what I had in my head, thanks so much!

Do most model shops carry decal paper? I may go and try and find some this weekend.

Jimmy Rocket,
I wish I could take credit for "Fenderbird". It's just the term that is used to describe the basses John Entwhistle (aka "The Ox") had made with Maple Board Precision necks and Thunderbird bodies. I have a thunderbird body and Maple pbass neck on the way now. Truth be told, I can't be totally sure that I didn't see another bass with similar decals a few years ago.

Oops, what was that... oh it was my age showing. I love listening to The Who but I had no idea.

Jehu -- the script is awesome. Very authentic

Don't want to sound too critical but I think this decal might be a little too large compared to the size of the headstock, especially when a string retainer gets installed. See my headstock for comparison.

No problem at all. Comments will help make this as authentic as possible. I'm by no means a Fender expert, but there are some TB'ers that are.

I couldn't see your image (the old square with an X in it). But what I did was use a photo (a la internet) of a Jazz Bass headstock. The Fender portion of Fenderbird sits 100% on top of the original Fender logo. So that size should be correct proportionately to the headstock. It is definitely longer and runs into the Jazz Bass sticker.

I used a guide line that followed the contour of Jazz Bass to line up the Ox Bass. I did off-set it's location height to line up with Fenderbird to be a bit more pleasing. The Jazz Bass headstock showed the words Jazz Bass lower than the bottom of Fender. If this doesn't look right (my way) I could def adjust it back. I also will use a type face that is a bit thicker for Ox Bass...this might be a tad too skinny.

I traced the outline of the headstock in the photo and tuners. I should have traced the retainer button to show as well.

Karl is going to provide me heights of the text elements and some headstock measurements. This is the only way I can ensure an authentic fit. The Fender portion of Fenderbird is a tracing of the word Fender, so once I know the height I will Scale it proportionately and it should be money!

At least I think my methodology is sound.
