Custom ear molds.....is this normal???

So I'm having a set of attenuated SPL plugs made by ACS Customs. I called them today to get an update. Also, I wanted to ask them if they're able to send my impressions back with my order when it ships. Reason being, will prob have a set of CIEMS made later this fall. The guy the phone said no, they won't release them. However, they will keep them on file for 4 years. He said if I like, I can purchase a duplicate mold for $10. Serioulsy!!! Why don't they make a copy for their records and send me back my original molds. The molds I sent are not their property. I don't know why they feel they have proprietary rights to my ear molds. What the heck!! This torques me. Is this common?

I've only gone through my local hearing place, and they gave me the molds to keep, and I've used the same molds now 3 - 4 times.

Apparently it is common.. part of the "marketing" approach to make you lean toward repeat buying from them, since they keep your molds on file. I thought 2 yrs was the norm tho' since the material used by audiologists tends to decay after longer time frames.
1964 ears kept mine.. but to be honest, I did not ask for them to be returned.

I spoke to them again cause I was really torqued. Still am I guess. Looks like I can get my originals back but not with out paying them $10 so they can keep a silicone copy on file for themselves. At $185 for a set of custom attenuated plugs, the manufacture's cost of making a clone of my mold for their records should be built into the price.
