Custom made necks?

I don't do custom necks myself any more; too busy with my own line of basses.

But I can recommend Keith Horne, here in Burbank, CA. He's a young guy near me who has been working for other Luthiers that I know. I've been working with him and encouraging him to get into building custom necks as his own specialty. I do any custom machining that he needs on the neck structures, and he does the shaping, fretting, detail work, etc. He/we will do exotic custom work, not just the same old stuff.

You can reach Keith at: keithhorne1...at...gmail.dot.com

Let's say a guy has a bass that he loves, a Lakland 44-02, and would like to get a custom replacement neck for it, say with a birds eye maple fingerboard or even something a little more exotic like ziricote. Are there any luthiers out there that would be able to make such a neck?

Yes.
magnusguitars might just do that.
He makes great instruments and equally fine necks.
