bought these of Craigslist for $225 for the pair. guy is a guitarist and incorrectly assumed they were bass speakers (i guess because they're 15"?). these are loaded with the jensens making them guitar cabinets (the bass cabinets were loaded with jbls)

How enigneered were cabs back then?
You had companies like Kustom, Fender, and Ampeg using the exact same box and offering different drivers.
Just how well could cabs be designed back then?
Was box tune to a particular driver that even important to manufacturers back then?
I have this memory that all of those old piggy back Fenders were the same width and depth and that height might have been a bit arbitrary.

the answer is no
to all of the questions
speaker/enclosure technology has improved leaps and bounds since they produced my kustom cabs
it's really annoying trying to find specs for all of these 1970s speakers I've stumbled onto because they don't exist

The ports worked to expel smoke that was blown into them. Any more description may be okay with local laws but violate Fed laws. Yep, prosecute us in 1969 and reveal you have a time machine. My point is they were functional.

Wishing those cabs to be 2023 or 2019 technical is missing the point. Bassists are playing late '60s Showman cabs now. Amps aren't just amplification. For some they are part of the musical instrument. An engineer said to me that while specs would hate it, a Deluxe Reverb with a coil cord from a Tele circa '65 mic'd with a Shure SM is a sound that we hear. We hear it in records from those days. If we want that sound we go find it. Meanwhile Sunns were better cabs but Kustoms sounded good especially with JBLs. The CTS were my fave as they would maintain similar sound when cranked when JBLs would go all "Mountain" on you.
