Customizing a Geddy

I have some old hardware on another bass that I customized years ago: black Schaler tuners and a black Badass bridge. I was thinking, purely for aesthetic purposes, of putting the black hardware on my Geddy.

My main area of concern is that the Geddy wouldn't be "stock" anymore. Thus, I don't want to devalue the instrument at all. What are your thoughts on this? Should I or shouldn't I?

Is keeping the original hardware an option? Then do what you want and change it back to it's original state if you should decide to get rid of it.

If you go black, make sure you have a black control plate aswell!

I think it's really a matter of personal preference. Will swapping out thus hardware require you to drill any new holes, or make any non-reversible modifications to the instrument?

If it won't require drilling any new holes or some such, then do the swap, but keep your original hardware so that, should you ever decide to sell it, you can put the instrument back to stock.

Yeah, I can keep the original hardware. I don't think that putting the new tuners on it would require any new drilling, either. Hmmm...now where can I find a black control panel for a jazz bass?

I don't know that a "stock" Geddy will be that big a deal like a stock "71" jazz or anything. Mod away.

Black tuners look pretty cool on a Geddy....even if everything else is stock and the stock tuners are not very good anyway.
I'd go for that right away.

I miss my GL

If I get another one the only things I'd change are

New tuners
New nut
Routing underneath the pickguard to be able to adjust the truss rod without taking the neck off.

I had all the cavities super shielded on mine...which was maybe the biggest waste of money I ever spent on any instrument.

Keep the stock Badass and sell the black one, leave the control plate stock too.

Just my friendly suggestions, if a blacked out Geddy is what you want....don't listen to me or anybody.

Seriously, if Fender gave the Geddy better tuners, a bone or synthetic bone nut and a bullet truss rod adjuster.....it would be a perfect Jazz Bass stock imho.

I'm talking myself into getting another one now....
