Cutting through

As others have said, mids are the key.

Assuming you're not underpowered, I'd start with the eq's on both the bass and amp flat. I'd start with just one (either the amp or the bass) and give some cut to the bass and boost to the mids. This should get you in the ball park.

Again, as others have said, it'll probably sound like poo on its own, but will sound fine with everyone playing.

If you're going thru a PA, it's the soundman's job to make you heard. Just give him the flattest signal you can.
