Cutting wire connecting p bass pickups and use them individually

YES, but....

1) The P-pickups are wired in series; jazz basses are (usually) wired in parallel.
2) Reducing the volume from either pickup half will interfere with their hum-cancelling design.
Ah, okay then. I still want to be able to blend them in if I choose to like in jazz basses. While being able to use them both separately, I want to have more tone variety instead of just sliding the tone knob or changing strings.

Edit: On second thoughts it might be a dumb idea to do that because then I won't be able to pluck the bottom 2 strings. It might be a better idea to just use a coil splitting mod to switch between series and parallel. That's such a stupid mistake on my end. I apologise, for that, why didn't I come up with that.‍♂️
