I think I have string bipolar he he, given all the wild flips from high tension to low tension try outs I get into. Currently in the low tension phase. Anyhow, I decided to find the average tension for for the 10 strings that make up the La Bella LTF flats 5 string set, and the TI Jazz Flats 5 string set. These are prob the most cited strings when discussions about low tension strings come up, are they not. Drumroll, the average tension is 33.82lbf. I’ll christen it the LTGM (low tension golden mean) .So I thought I would take that figure and see if there was a flatwound set ( no singles) with gauges that came close to the 33.82, but in D standard. Closest I found was GHS Precision Flats 45 60 80 105 set. With tensions thus in D standard
GHS Precision Flats
Gauges 45 60 80 105
D1/.105/33.26lbf
G1/.080/35.63lbf
C2/.060/36.90lbf
F2/.045/32.93lbf
TT = 138.72lbf
As far as other string sets in other string types that I had a quick look at, the GHS Pressurewounds set 44 58 80 102 and D’addario EXL170BT 45 60 80 107 are also not far from the LTGM
GHS Pressurewounds
Gauges 44 58 80 102
D1/.102/31.35lbf
G1/.080/35.50lbf
C2/.058/33.25lbf
F2/.044/34.36lbf
TT = 134.46lbf
D’Addario XL Nickel Rounds
Gauges 45 60 80 107
D1/.107/31.31lbf
G1/.080/31.78lbf
C2/.060/32.43lbf
F2/.045/33.74lbf
TT =129.26lbf
I assume there are other sets out there with the same or similar gauges.
Does this meaning anything. Yep. Means I currently have too much time on my hands he he
