I've written before about a bad experience with the NYXLs. My first set of them was really great. Kept them on several weeks. I had bought 2 sets and when I changed strings, the B and the E string were dead, dead, dead. So I broke out the second set I had bought, the those one, and although the E and B were fine, the D string from the second set broke at the loop on the ball end. That scared me away from the NYXLs for the time being.

I know there's a few NYXL users here and I was wondering about your experiences with them. I do remember them sounding really good and I'd like to try them again, even as expensive as they are.

    Thanx.

Had a few sets on a Pbass some years ago. Top quality and low tension but found that the tone was somewhat "thin" and boring. Perhaps they suit better Jbass type basses. Will try them again one day.

I have a jazz that these strings fit perfectly, tone / tension / feel is great. I know what you mean about the thinness, but if you’re using preamps or any kind of tone shaping it’s a really great basic J tone to start with. They wouldn’t be my choice for a Precision though, I don’t think they suit P basses quite as much.

No issues with QC, mine have been great, and I play them way past their expiration date. (I like the tone of dead strings a lot though and I play jazz so I may not be the best advocate if you’re looking for bright crispy tone. I try and get rid of ‘zing’ as fast as I can).

They were probably developed not with the Pbass in mind; the standard XL D'Ads are a better fit for a Pbass methinks. Currently Roto RB45 on my Pbass, which perhaps are fatter and more upfront than the XL - and certainly than the NYXL. They seem to suit Pbasses better.

@Geri O What bass do you have them on?

They were on my Lull M5V Jazz-style bass when I tried them last, didn’t own the P5 then. I also used the NYXLs on my Stingray and I remember liking them on that bass. I do tend to keep identical strings on all my basses, which may or may not be the thing to do.

My 2 sets of NYXLs should be here in a couple of days. I’m comparing them to Pro Steels, which again, I like just fine. I just get curious about things like that want to revisit the NYXLs.

I'd like to revisit certain strings myself, like the Fender pure nickel 7150s and nps 7250s as well as the NYXLs! There's something about ex relations.

I tried a set when they first came out. I put the E string on and it snapped at the tuning post bringing it up to tension. I didn't get a chance to play them and have not tried them since. That's all I got.

Here’s hoping they are past that run of problems with those strings. As I talk about the two issues I had with those first sets, I try to remember how much I liked that first set that lasted longer than I had been getting from a set of strings.
