Dadarrio's

D'addario Nickel XLs in gauges to suit your choice. You didn't say whether you play 4, 5 or whatever-string basses but if you play 4 string try perhaps .100-.45 gauge.

I used to use D'addarios and still think they're good strings but I'm now into TI Superalloys and EB Hybrid (nickel) Slinkys. Both of these sets are .105-.45. The TIs are rather expensive but last for quite a long time and the EBs are cheaper and don't last as long. YMMV. The TIs seem to be the warmer of the two brands but again, YMMV.

I find that 40 and 60 on XLs just does not cut very well. But that may just be me. The XLs 45-100 are pretty easy to play. I am also playing some Fender 7250s that are 45-100 and they seem real easy to play. DR Highbeams have a reputation of being a flexible string as well.

I played LaBella Hard Rockin' Steels in a 40-100 gauge for a while. They are fast and light.
