D'Addario ECB82 + RBX170 = ?

Will D'Addario ECB82 strings fit my Yamaha RBX170?

I'm looking to try out a set of flatwounds and the ECB82's are the medium gauge that I like best and the price is decent.

How much of a different sound should I expect switching from my roundwounds to flatwounds? I hear that flatwounds lose alot of highs but in my case thats a good thing, my bass has too much high end for my liking.

You may have a bit of trouble fitting them through the bridge because of the silk but you can just pull some of it off and it should fit fine. Chromes are rather bright new so give them a while before you make your final decision on them.

Flats are definately HEAPS less in the "ZING" dept. than rounds!!!!!!! U MAY not like 'em at all. I went to 40-90 guage Chromes 1st as they were a bit less like fencing wire. Flats SEEM larger when the guage is the same IME. I'd try Groundwounds or half rounds If I were U. YMMV tho

Chromes do seem to be a bit higher tension but it's nothing you don't become accustomed to as you play. I think alot of it depends on the bass, the setup, and your playing style. Also, they may feel 'sticky' when you play, that's because of the coating and the fact that flats have more surface area, thus more friction when sliding. Still, it's nothing that you don't get used to if you give them a fair chance.
