Daddario EXP strings! NOT being Discontinued!!!

Just tried DAddario EXP 5 string set. I was expecting these to be just another set of strings, but they are really great! They are about as bright as a fresh set of XLs but feel a little slicker and have a very even, consistent tone and I can't believe it but the B string is just as bright as the other strings, something hard to find even on non coated strings!

Wondering how many players out there are using these???

If they maintain their current brightness for a long time, then I may have found my new strings!

What bass did you put them on? DAddario makes good strings IMO. I had a set of Nickel wounds on a 5 string and loved them. Coatings are great but eventually start to flake off. That will be the true test.

Just put them on a Japanese Ibanez BTB with mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fb, and USA Barts. It's a dark sounding bass but these EXPs have brightness, which I've NEVER heard from a coated string.
These have to be the brightest coated strings on the market.
If anyone knows of a brighter coated string please let me know!!!

DR Dragon Skins and Elixir Steels are quite a bit brighter.

Well folks, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's official, EXP bass strings have been discontinued! There are sets still available so you can still buy them now, but once those are gone its over. No word on replacement coated strings from DAddario.

This sucks! These were the only coated strings I have ever liked!

Talk about bummer after reading your love for the EXP that it will be snatched away? What does Jason @ bassstringsonline have to say about this? :nailbiting:

That's a Lado bass from the 80s I believe.
Jason may purchase all of the remaining EXP sets, if so BSO will be the last place to buy the remaining sets.
I'm gonna try coated slinkys, haven't tried those yet.

Tried the EXP's on a stupid deal a couple years back, while OK, I ended up back with my trusty D'A half rounds.

D'Addario is usually pretty good at making products for a good stretch, I'm thinking it must really be a bad seller for them to drop them.

I tried the EXP reds once. Apparently one of the strings got past the coating process as it started oxidizing a few days after I put in on... as you would expect a copper coated string to do. The other 3 retained their tone and shineyness a while longer.

I have a very bright set of Elixirs on my bass now that are over a year old and sounding pretty much brand new. I found my string of choice. Perhaps give the elixirs another try.
