I'm having a tough time figuring out which set of strings I should go with next, but I've narrowed it down to the D'addario ProSteels and Rotosound Swing 66. I hear good things about both, but I was hoping to hear which set you guys like better. Which one keeps that bright sound for longer? That's really the main thing I'm concerned about, but also which set has higher tension? Thanks guys!

D'addario ProSteels or Rotosound Swing 66 strings?

ProSteels are the way to go. I've never liked Rotosounds. Too rough on the fingers and die way too quickly.
A lot of people said that the Rotosounds die quick in reviews I've read. How long do ProSteels keep their bright sound?
IME, quite long. Depends on your body chemistry and how often/conditions you play but for me, they last about 3 months.
+1 with Eaglemoon on the ProSteels. I used Highbeams for a couple of years but then tried the Prosteels. Luv em. I will say that I did try them on another bass I had and it didnt work. My DJ5 loves them. And they do last quite long...normally I can get at least 2 months out of em.
ProSteels work great for high zing and last a very long time on a 34" neck. Tension seems to be normal feeling, been using them a long time, love um' get um' DR Hi-Beams are great for a long scale neck, if that's needed, ProSteels won't fit on my Modulus 35" neck and went with the DR's and they too last forever with high zing tone. Both are my personal fav's
I have never used 66s but I have used Pro Steels. While they no longer fit the style of music I play, I found them to be brite, and long lasting. They were very impressive with their tone and feel.
I've played Rotos for the last few years. Flats and rounds, but more rounds. Always Swing 66's.
Just last week I bought a set of D'Addario Nickel Wounds. I found real quick that they sound great. They are a tad bit stiffer than the Rotos, but I wanted that.
To me, it always seemed that the E string in the Rotos was dead. Even out of a new pack.
Like I said, I have Nickel Wound D'Addario strings now, but I want to try the ProSteels.

I have heard bad things about how long the Rotosound's last. I also enjoy DR High Beams on some of my basses. I've used the Pro Steel's, and they are very bright sounding and last longer than one would expect. I like High Beam's better, they are round core's not sure about the Pro Steels.
Hex core is the standard right? What is the sound difference between round and hex cores?

If they do make an extra long set of ProSteels, I want to try them! I never check them out online, whenever I need a set I always just get them at the ol' local Guitar Center or Sam Ash here in town and they never stock any extra long sets, now I am curious and gotta do a bit of google-ing
I love ProSteels, and think they're a little easier on the fingers/frets than Roto's IMO.

By all means go for the Pro steels, but Rotosound are worth trying at least once (in the future), nothing sounds like them! They lose their first sound fairly quick, but its such a great sound! After they lose the out the pack sound they are still very nice sounding, just not the same.
