Dame Basses Anyone

Visted a store here in Dubai and came across a Dame bass guitar from Indonesia. Reasonable neck and hefty bridge and tuners. Had a quick go and there seems quite a broad range of sound available. Nice looking bass as well.

Anyone out there ever heard of Dame bass guitars? Anyone any experience of these basses?

Cheers

Massive BUMP to this thread. I just encountered the official website of Dame: www.dame.co.kr. Unfortunately, I cannot read Korean, but what I do know is that they cost absolutely crap and look great (and according to some YouTube vids, sound great too). I want a Sanctus!

The only thing is I don't know if they are available in Europe, Google isn't very helpful.

Been searching for a US Dame dealer for over a year - with no luck yet. Guess I'll have to keep waiting patiently. In the search, I found something kind of weird - a distributor called Clive Guitars that seems to have some affiliation with Dame & more recently, Samick guitars. On the Clive Guitars website, you can clearly see that these are actually Dame models (Sanctus). If you look closely at the specs, it even mentions Dame bridges being used, or sometimes Dame pickups. But they are cleary rebadged Dame basses - same models, same electronics, everything. Also, the F&P (Fall & Paul) bass is not really a "Clive" design either. So some sort of weird affiliate distribution process is going on obviously. Maybe with the Samick affiliation, there may be a greater chance of these basses starting to get to the US. If they sound half as good as they look, I think they'd do very well here.

Clive Guitars European Distributors List: Link Removed

Other Clive Bass models (notice the new Samick affiliation in the web address): Invalid Link Removed

My favorite Dame bass clip on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIInAnwSB0g

Hope this helps track down a Dame/Clive bass for you. Please, please post a review if you do end up with one. :)

Wow! Congrats on obtaining one. You are probably the only person on TB who actually owns one as far as I'm aware of, unless others chime in. Any chance of pics? BTW, I found a few videos on YouTube of what I think is the bass you have. I hadn't seen these before: Invalid Link Removed

Again - big congrats! You are very lucky! :hyper::bassist::hyper:

It's funny this would be here today. I had never heard or seen this bass until today.
I just played a show today and we opened for Jeff Kashiwa. The bass player was Andre Berry with his Dame 5 string (youtube video...his version of Larry Graham's hair) Bass sounded great at soundcheck. He was playing thru 2 SWR Goliath III and a WT800. Bass reminded me sonically of an Atelier Z.

I bought a Clive Sanctus T800 with maple fretboard 3-4 months ago here in sweden and it's just been an amazing instrument so far. Apart from a small issue with one of the tuners (which the store is fixing atm) I haven't had any real problems with it. The sound is amazing imo!

(I was googling on my model for the specs on what tuners were on it since the store didn't have any in stock to replace the broken one and I found this thread on talkbass, so here's my first post)

"DAME! That's a Badass bass!" LOL

I wanted a fender J bass or a lakland.. But couldn't afford one yet..

So i settled for the dame j bass.

It has passive/active pups.
GROVER machine heads.

2 9V batts

Swamp ash body
Maple fret board

Pearl Block inlays
Pearl pick guard.

I got this bass for 1/4 the price of a Fender Deluxe J bass..

and its sound is sooo good and the feel is better!

Put on some DR-Fat beams

Thats it!

Resurrection...

One came for sale locally and I just had to try it out. Verdict? - I could not but to march straight to the ATM machine grinning like a fool. Even forgot to bargain.

For the 4 string sets worth of money I payed for it it might be a bantam weight both in terms of actual weight and monetary value. It does pack a punch though!

Awesome sound, feel, fit and finish. Bravo!
