Dan Briggs (Between the Buried and Me)

Dan uses Spector NS-2000/5. its discontinued, but the Ledgend-5 is a similar reproduction of it.
The instrument he plays is an American neck-through, as opposed to the Legend which is a Korean bolt-on. I have a Legend, actually, and it's signed by Dan and the rest of the band

Yea I saw them last night. The bassist from Cynic was playing a nasty Wyn fretless. As usual, BTBAM brought it.
Actually, according to my official tab book by Dan himself [/bragging] it's in 6/4 5/4

So I just have to share a quick Dan related story.
Dan has been one of my favorite bassists for years now and I've been a fan of his ever since I heard Alaska for the first time way back when. But as much as I've admired the guy his presence has sort of plagued my whole career. See, for whatever reason, people are constantly comparing me to him. I don't know what it is, I don't look like him, I don't really play like him, the only similarity we have is that we live in the same state. But for years now, practically every other show I play someone comes up to me and says "Hey, know who you remind me of? That guy from BTBAM. What's his name? The bass player." And I say "Dan Briggs" and then go smash my head against the wall. It's actually become a running joke in my band.
So recently, on our last tour, we made a stop in Spartanburg SC and guess who is on the same bill with us. Dan's side project Trioscapes. That's right, after all these years, Dan and I will finally meet. So of course I have to say something to him. My band mates actually suggested that I just fight him and settle things right then and there. But after both our bands have played I went over and told him all about the years of hanging out in his shadow and suggested that he change his style a bit to avoid any further confusion. But he even agreed that there aren't many similarities between us and that the comparisons weren't very accurate, so we decided to just let things be.
After that we just kind of hung out for a bit and talked about music and culture and shared some flattering complements. (And honestly, Dan complementing me on my bass playing really made my night) Then, by the time the show was over we shook hands and parted ways as friends. Turns out Dan is in fact the super nice, humble, friendly guy we all kind of suspected he was. And much to my band mates dissatisfaction, I have no desire to fight him.

Haha that actually worries me. If it was a fist fight, I'm pretty sure I'd win, but if it was a SP type bass battle in which skill is the deciding factor, I don't stand a chance.
