Dan Lakin has SOLD Lakland basses???

I don't know when the production of the 54-94s stopped but I know for a fact that there are some and at least a few that belong to TBers
I think it is feaseble to custom make a 54-94. After all, they still make (or quite recently have) such options as the 35" 'XS' 4-94 model

I've been following this thread for several days and now need to comment. I
have followed Lakland for years. An acquaintance of mine is a friend of one of
Lakland's (former) signature artists. Evidently, the signature artist was
surprised to learn he is no longer a signature artist! He happened upon that
info by looking on the Lakland website over the weekend. He received no phone
call or other notification from Lakland--not a word. Even if the signature
artists were dropped for financial reasons, he deserved some type of
notification, and dare I say, thanks. The signature artists helped create those
basses! I believe Dan to be a world class guy. Looks like the new management
didn't learn everything they needed to from him. I hope that the new Lakland
treats their customers, who buy their products, better than their signature
artists, who helped design them. And I hope they treated Dan better too.
Apparently Hanson ISN'T Lakland. The new boss is NOT the same as the old boss.

Your first post on TB, about what an acquaintance of a friend of one of the artists said to you?

Not doubting your word or calling you out, but that's an uncomfortable few degrees of separation, and not a lot to base a judgment about a whole company's direction on, IMO.

I imagine they have their hands rather full right now at Lakland, let's just hope it was an oversight that will be rectified (if indeed that is what happened).

So what you're saying is, you know someone who's friends with either Bob Glaub, Duck Dunn, or Joe Osborn, and according to this "acquaintance", one of those 3 told him that they got screwed. Plus you just joined TB.

I can't believe that anyone at Lakland would screw anyone over. The are great guys there, John & Dan included.

Customer service was always #1. If anything did happen, I would have to believe it was not in their control.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. And you're right, I don't post, so I can understand your skepticism. In the past I have just followed discussions and not felt a need to comment. But I did want to comment this time about the sale of Lakland.

I just got out of a meeting with JP and Bo less than two hours ago. Here's a quick summary.

We asked about this and Bo and JP told us there is a licensing issue. They simply aren't allowed to use those names on the basses. I didn't ask about how the communication of this news went, but I find it difficult to believe they weren't notified. They are still endorsing artists. In fact, JP and Bo said that not a single endorsing artist was dropped.
