Danelectro 64

Does anyone on here own a dan 64 bass? Ive read all i can about it but im hesitant to commit to buying one. Id love to hear more about it from people with hands on experience with it. Im in a band going to start a tour soon. Are they sturdy? Should i buy it?

they're a copy of the '60s Moserites and those were not the strongest builds going, but were substantial and with proper care were fine. I'd bet these '64s are a tad stronger but if you expect a bruising gig schedule then a more substantial bass would certainly fare better. I asked in your other thread but what kinda music is it?

Hm i see. My VM jazz has taken quite the beating and its still going. The music leans more towards punk but influenced by late 60s and 70s sounds. From link wray to the ramones and everything inbetween.

I support this message.
sounds like things could get rowdy, error prone, and compromising for the well being of your gear, something more robust would be best in that case and as mentioned in your other thread, the G&L line is a good start, they are quite studly. even their Ps and Js aren't your typical passive Ps and Js, but until you get ahold of a Dano you won't know it's potential, it might be solid, and may be the perfect sound for your music. I'm dying for one now.

I own one and it’s one of my favorites I’ve ever played/owned.

Pros:
-Nut width is pretty narrow. Feels like a J bass neck(possibly narrower).
-It also has a more gradual taper so the fretboard at the heel is narrower than it would be on a Fender-style bass. The neck is very playable.
-Good balance,
-Great upper fret access.
-The neck pickup sounds amazing.
-Bolt-on Neck and solid body. Pretty sturdy, I don’t know if you’re planning on throwing yours into a brick wall, but otherwise it should hold of to regular gigging.

Cons
-Bridge is more adjustable than most Danelectro bridges; good enough to intone and adjust the string height. But if I can find a feasible replacement I’ll swap it out.
-Bridge pickup is ok but isn’t as awesome as the neck.
-UFO knobs are kind of silly. Swapped those out.
