I got a set of LaBella Flatwound Bass VI strings to put on my 30" Danelectro Baritone. I like it! It sounds cool and is lots of fun to play. I'm wondering though if I'd like round wound strings more... I would like this instrument to have a plucky, bright sound that has more of a baritone vibe than a bass vibe. We could talk all day about the pros and cons of going one way or the other, but what I'd REALLY like to know is: Does someone have a good demo clip of a Danelectro Bass VI E-e baritone with roundwound strings that I could hear? Before you say it, yes, I could buy a set and try them. But these LaBellas were expensive! If it turns into a buzzy mess with the roundwounds or loses the definition that it has currently, I could save myself a few dollars by hearing it first!
http://www.bassstringsonline.com/DA...-Fender-Bass-VI-String-Set--24-84_p_1054.html Short scale set, so should fit a Dano, too. Not too expensive.
Along with what jimmy said, you could also put together a set of strings from singles on that same website. All you need are a short scale E and A, then you can use long/ medium scale strings for the rest... This gives you the option to even just buy one or two strings and test them out.
