Danelectro bridge

I just got a Danelectro bridge with the rosewood saddle. The saddle has a hole in the center of the flat side that corresponds to a slot in the bridge. Should there be a pin in the hole or is it simply a visual reference for installation?

There's actually a small screw that goes there to hold the saddle to the bridge...

It may not be essential to have the screw though. None of my Jerry Jones had that and the saddle never moved. Change strings one at a time.

I ended up Krazy gluing a piece of toothpick in the hole and cutting it back to about 1/8"; it works fine. Thanks to the responders.
