I've never heard of a solid-body Danelectro U2. Have you opened the control cover and liked inside?
Yes. It's definitely solid.

It just happens to sound flippin' amazing! I love the way this baby records with a little overdrive. Pure rock tone. I've owned several Dano's over the years, in fact it was a 2002 Longhorn that got me interested in short scale basses. Here is my '99 Longhorn which is my main bass at the moment.
Is the E string different from the others or is it the lighting?

Looks to me like the E string is different. Even has different wrap color which looks like that found on Chromes. The others look like they might be Rotosound nylon tapes.
I have a Longhorn from the original batch of re-issues , so it was probably made in 98 . Still have the factory strings on it . I felt it kept sounding better as the strings aged , and never changed them . I do have a set of LaBella Dano flats ready for that day when one breaks but I'm going to hold off until that day comes .
I was ordering some Curt Mangans for my long scale basses so I thought I would try their short scale for my longhorn. They almost fit without modification. You could get away with it if you don't mind more than the typical amount of wraps around the tuning key. They're probably better suited for 32" short scale. Soundwise, they're very close to the stock strings.
I never did get an answer on what the current stock strings are. I understand that they are D'Addarios so I'm guessing if they are steel or 105s then they are Prosteels EPS170S otherwise they're the Nickel EXL170S.
As far as I've read, they're EXL170S, although the ones that came on my 56 (2010 or '11) seemed like stainless. (I took them off immediately and put flats in, so it didn't really matter.)
But I do like EXL170(S) when I use rounds.

Here's my oddball. Seems like someone slapped a bass neck/bridge on a Pro reissue guitar body.

Here's my oddball. Seems like someone slapped a bass neck/bridge on a Pro reissue guitar body, but penally a factory second.
(Note the paint discoloration. It looks like it was stored in a stack of bodies inter a DC body, maybe in bright got sunlight for several years. I was originally going to repaint it, but i decided not to mess with it.)
