I did this. I've never seen another until now. I had to cut the neck pocket deeper because I didn't want to move the bridge. I think the neck I used is from nineties longhorn. The body was NOS. View attachment 3439080 View attachment 3439075

On the U3 and U2 I converted using Longhorn necks I only had to widen the neck pocket a tiny bit and could use the original bridge location. The Convertible didn't require any neck pocket modification to accept the longhorn neck but I had to install three wood posts in the body to accommodate the bridge screws.

Maybe the body I have was meant for a short-scale guitar neck? Did any of the reissues have short-scale necks? I think the sixties Dano Pros were all short-scale, but mine has a plywood frame (not solid wood), so it can't be a sixties body.

According to what I've seen on the 'net the scale length of the Pro RI is 25" and the original Pro is 21".

Yeah, that's what I thought, but I'm trying to figure out how cornfarmer managed to install a 24-fret neck without moving the bridge or modifying the neck pocket.

Here's a photo of a 2007 Pro RI form the 'net. Compared to the images posted with the longhorn neck it looks to me like the neck pocket was made longer such that it encroaches on the pickguard.

Yes, as I said, when I mounted the neck, I had to cut the neck pocket deeper toward the bridge in order to keep the bridge in the same spot.

I was trying to figure out how on the other bass-converted Dano Pro, he didn't have to cut neck pocket. But maybe it's a long-scale neck?

Sorry, I misunderstood. I believe you are correct in that neck being a longscale.

First gig with my Dano Longhorn. Sounded great - very woody, clear and balanced thru my AER Bass One combo. Piano, guitar, sax, & bass gig (no drums). Early 90’s MIK reissue in Daddy-O yellow. Got some very positive comments about the looks too.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but I'm trying to figure out how cornfarmer managed to install a 24-fret neck without moving the bridge or modifying the neck pocket.

I can't take credit for the conversion, I bought it this way. The neck is long scale as has been mentioned, and looking at the neck pocket a little more closely, it may have been widened. Are these bodies routed on CNC machines? Also, the bridge saddles are slammed to the bottom and back of the bridge plate. Intonation seems ok, definitely close enough for a Dano.

At any rate, I got a new set of Chromes installed and man do they sound good, I used to hate flatwounds

Hello everyone! Sign me up if you please. Got this Korean made Dan-o-blaster Rumor about a year ago. Been using it in the studio in various recording situations, very happy with it! Comfortable neck, good intonation, sits easily in the mix. Ended up stringing it with flats and using the active output (with the chorus turned off). Sounds more open and balanced than the passive one.

Busted out this bad boy for the first time in over a year! 09 Longhorn bone stock except for the extra strap button straight into an Ampeg BA112 v2 with no instruments in the PA. Had rounds till two weeks ago, then I slapped its old set of LaBellas back on for a new band where we're stripped down instrumentally to the bone, doing light rock and R&B with a little country and blues now and then. And it crushed it!

Brought my trusty Precision with Geezer P just in case, but got it a lot closer to the P sound than I thought it would by using only the neck pickup and adjusting the amp a little, so I used it the whole gig. Never used the bridge pickup. The gig isn't really fussy about tone. I just need a big ballsy bottom end with enough treble and mids for clarity when we do "You're So Vain," then I adjust down with the bass' tone knob depending on how much clarity I need. Sometimes I don't need any. But Klaus Voorman's pick tone with Carly Simon on that song is totally what I'm shooting for as a base tone because it works for everything we do. And I could get it pretty close with the Dano. Amp helped too

The P won't be going anywhere but I'll be using this one pretty regularly again. One at a time, though...I bring one bass to a gig under protest! This version of the Longhorn gets slagged a lot for being ultra-cheap, but I've even flown it at least 20 times as checked baggage in an SKB Roto case, never had a single problem with it, and just tonight put its first ding on it. And it stays in tune like a rock and sounds great. I don't care if it's built like the vintage ones or sounds just like them or not...I'm not going to spend that kind of money on one ever. But I'll dang sure buy one at Sam Ash for half off after it sat for a year with no takers!

Cool! Klaus always has great tone. You should check him out on Harry Nilsson’s recording of Subterranean Homesick Blues.

Nice. Very shiny. Mine isn't shiny, except the bridge plate, which isn't original.
