Swim Club Pool Party gig

A local swim club, the Fry’s Spring Beach Club, is run as a non-profit. They manage an old resort with a number of big swimming pools.

They have a summer concert series, and one of the bands I play with, Mama Tried, played there. The Saturday struggled to stay clear, and we’ve been having scattered but powerful T-storms for almost a week, everyday in last afternoon. But this Saturday, we lucked out! The sun was out, maybe the only place in town where the sun was out! I know it was cloudy and gray at my house.

The load in was brutal - over broken ground, no path, about 30 feet or so of net elevation change. But the gig was a lot of fun! Pics follow.

That load-in is brutal, I did the sound there for 2 years and it was always a sweatfest.

That is the perfect description!

I jumped in the pool for a quick dip after load in, and that was a refreshing reset.

But load out - uphill - was even harder. My clothes were soaked through after that, and I didn’t want to change back into my bathing suit at that point.

I haven’t done one of those for a while but I’ve certainly had my share of them. They’re better if you can take a dip in the pool for sure. Playing gigs here in St.Louis outside in late summer is pretty swampy.

These types of gigs make you appreciate the easier load-in and load-outs more!

Sounds like a gig I had three weeks ago , had to hand carry my gear 100 feet to back of house , down stairs and around to opposite side of pool to set up seven feet from the pool and lastly , it did rain/sprinkle for one minute .

Nice! The photo's sort of remind me of a concert I brought my parents to some 10 years ago.
It was a pianoconcert of Lucas and Arthur Jussen at a pond that's used as an ice skating ring in winter.
And there's a stage for the audience at one side of the water.

No, at least none that I know of.

Sounds about right. This one is maybe two hundred feet or so from the parking lot to the stage.

That looks fancier than the Fry’s Spring Beach Club! That stage looks really cool.
