Matt finish , cream knobs , no sticker . Both Chinese and Korean factories produced them . But here's a photo . Used it at my gig tonight , fresh LaBella flats on it . I don't like the strap pegs and might change them . It sounded good for new strings , I like it .

Looks like mine.

I like to use D'addario Planet Waves buttons (PWE202?). They're cheap ($8-10) and have a nice big flange to hold the strap. And I use either Dunlop Lok Straps (#7007, I think - about $3/pair) or rubber disc things (Fender Strap blocks? also about $3/pair).

Cheap, effective, and easy is good.

It's hard to tell from the photo so I'll ask :: is the finish on the lipstick tubes shiny chrome or matte gray? If the latter I think those were during the Chinese run but can't say for sure. Chinese would have ceramic magnets which are hotter than the Alnicos I've heard.

You might try adjusting the pickups so they are closer to the strings - there are 2 screws at the back for each pickup that will move them toward the strings and contrary-wise.

Can we get a pick of the headstock and the back of the tuning machines, please? That might aid identification.

Mine is Korean, and has matte hardware and paint, so that's not necessarily an indicator of whether it's Chinese or Korean.

I don't know if the pickups on my qualify as "hot" or not. All my Danelectros are less "hot" than my Jerry Jones longhorn. I have a first-run long-scale DC bass (so, '98-'00). I guess I wouldn't call the pickups more or less hot than the others.

I suppose my 56/Dolphin is plenty fat sounding. If I want something fat, it's what I'd bring.

I've never used the light-gauge La Bella Danelectro set, but being light-gauge, I would expect it to be less fat-sounding that the heavier-gauge set I use (760FS-S)

760FD: 42-56-65-83
760FX-S: 39-56-77-96
760FL-S: 43-60-82-104
760FS-S: 45-65-85-105
760FM-S: 49-69-89-109

Not sure if this set is available in short-scale form, but most La Bella sets are...
0760M: 52-73-95-110

Editorial:
I love the 760FS-S set, but La Bella's numbering system is confusing. Sometimes there's a leading zero on the number. Usually the short-scale set doesn't have the -S on the package, just a sticker that says "short scale" or something. "F" means flatwound, I guess, but not all flatwound sets have an F in the number: 0760M, for example. "D" obviously means Danelectro; it's the set to use if you have an old Danelectro that a heavier-gauge sets are too high-tension for (since there's not a truss rod adjustment). I suppose the "S" in 760FS means "standard", L means light, X means extra-light, but what's the M mean in 760FM? Why not H instead (for heavy)? And it's easy to confuse 760FM and 0760M. Maybe 760FD, 760FXL, 760FL, 760FS, 760H, 760XH should be the progression. But having one set labeled "Danelectro" (FD) might make some people thing the other sets won't be good on a Danelectro, but that's not true.

I dunno.

I'm glad we could have this little talk.

What do you mean by a Shinko Longhorn?

I'll guess it's a difference in the pickups, but what strings do you have on the Longhorn?

The first batch of Dano re-issues were made in the Shinko factory in Korea . From what I understand they put a lot of effort into duplicating the original lipstick pickups . Mine was made around 98 and still has the factory strings on it . I love the sound of them . I had a set of LaBella Dano flats ready for the day that I lose a string , just put them on the Dolphin so I'll order up another set tomorrow .

Here's front/back of the headstock , and the pickups . They have a matt finish .

I don't remember the first Koreans being done in matte. First I saw of the matte was the Dano '63 (they came out around 2007) with a sorta 'relic' effect - i.e. matte hardware, "tarnished" treatment to the tape and body to make it look old and yucky. My son thought it was dirt LOL. You say they continued that into the second Korean phase so at least it narrows the field a bit.

Those tuning machines - especially the white knobs - remind me of the set that came on my Baritone/BassVI neck. I got it off Allparts NAMM display and it was marked made in China - that was 2004.

No serial number or anything?

My Longhorn is an early Korean . It's chromed and glossy . The Dolphins were first Chinese , and then production moved to Korea . I'm waiting for Doug's Tulloch's new edition to come out , I've heard there will be lots of info on the Evets re-issues . Might be a mid summer release .

I picked up the long scale when they were selling on line. I don't know if you have noticed but some companies will do a production run, sell them on E bay and when the supplies get down to the end they dump the rest of the stock for maybe 50% off the regular E Bay price.
I tried the long horn but I wanted a 34" scale. Again on E bay when they were closing out I saw a Dano long scale neck for sale so I bought it, then later a black Dano long scale body poped up, so I have a black one also.

I'll imitate msb's pictures, for the heck of it, and I'll add some bonus content Dano porn.

Same view. Matte hardware and paint on mine, like msb's. Jerry Jones bridge.

So without the sticker there's really no way of knowing where msb's originated?
