Danelectro Owners Club

I can’t remember if I ever posted pics of my Longhorn… I’ve played this one for a lot of years….

A lot of Texas references there on the back. Are you wanting a number?

i live in Austin … definitely a Texas guy. I played that bass when I was with Ray Wylie Hubbard, JP Harris, I’ve played it some in Micky and the Motorcars ( my current band), Tom Gilliam, etc …. It’s been all over the world and seen a thousand stages. It’s not my #1, but it’s not far off.

nah, I can’t keep up with club numbers (but thank you, I appreciate the offer)…. and to be honest, there’s a very good chance I’m not gonna make it through this round of cancer. Fighting like hell, but the docs think it’s likely just a matter of time….. so I just thought I’d share a couple pics of the ol’ girl .

Wow! A lot to celebrate and mourn in that single post. I'm just south of you in the TX hill country. I l love those references. I get it. I'm really sorry to hear about the cancer. It affects so many. I've seen it first hand. I send nothing but good vibes your way my friend. Keep fighting.

I love it - a real road warrior.

Wish I still had my first one. It was also black and modded. One of the ones that got away.

yeah, I’m so glad I never parted with this one. It’ll be with me till the end and then probably get passed on to my brother. :)

thank you so much ! I’m definitely a fighter. I got past stage 4 tongue and lymph node cancer in 2020 against the odds…. Here I am 4 years later. This time it’s way more severe and aggressive (different type cancer, spread throughout my body), but I’m taking it day by day, going through the treatment process, and if the man upstairs feels like I should continue on, I will ! In my 55 years I’ve been able to live my dreams, so it’s hard to complain…. I’ll never take a single day of it for granted !

lots of love to ya !

I agree with that mcgreivey. Dark Horse can be honorary member #150 (even if he didn't request it). It immortalizes him on this thread and it's nice round number at that. Plus we Texans gotta stick together. :roflmao:

Definitely has a the patina of love there. My Jerry Jones has, also (see profile picture, but maybe it's not evident in black and white) has a patina from heavy use, but I don't do stickers.View attachment 5482675 Link Removed
Beautiful ! Those Jerry Jones basses are amazing

I used to have a JJ doubleneck 4 string/baritone that was amazing… I wish I would’ve kept it !

Seeing these road warrior, honest wear basses reminds me of my first Dano. It was a copperburst 63 Longhorn bass. It was about 19 years old when I got it, and it had more than average wear and tear. I wish there was a picture, but I sold it sometime around 1995 and I wasn't a camera guy until they were conveniently located on my phone(s). The back of the neck had lost all of the copper paint below the 10th fret, there was some exposed wood below the 5th fret, and the top was worn through the copper ring on the lower bass bout from forearm wear. For those 19 years, it must have been played at least 2-4 hours a week to be that worn. The frets were still pretty good because... flatwounds!

I got it on a trade with a friend. He was given the bass and amp (a blue Univox head and 2x12" cab), as they were sitting in storage for a couple years at the Catholic church. He was a member of the church and they knew he played a little guitar. Well, he didn't play this bass at all, but did play the amp a little with his guitar. However, he needed some distortion, so he proposed to trade my Maestro FZ1s Fuzz for the Longhorn. I wasn't using the fuzz (I moved on to a MXR D+), and wanted a bass, so... yeah!

What I can't wrap my head around is the origin story of the gear. It was the bass and amp for the Catholic church in my hometown. I wasn't a member there, so I have no clue. Why would a 1960s/1970s small agricultural town Catholic church have a Longhorn and a blue Univox bass amp head and cab? Next time I see him, I have to find out more about this.

I found this interweb picture and this was the same amp he had. I remember it was tube (2x6L6), 4 input, two volume and 2x12". Would love to have that Longhorn and that amp today!
