Danelectros and Straploks

How do you get them in the case? 3 or 4 of my basses will not fit in their cases with the strap on them.

anyway, thanks for the input everyone, but i am married to the dunlops and using only one strap per gig because my wireless is taped to it.

No, they are made of neoprene (rubber). You can easily stretch them enough to get them off the strap button if you want to take them off. Then they immediately return to their original form so that if you want to put them back on, you just stretch it out again enough to slip over the head of the strap button. Easy on/easy off; but I've never had one come off accidentally.
The only potential problem is if the screw holding the button on strips the wood inside the bass. But if that happens, a regular strap lock wouldn't help either. I love these neoprene washers, and both guitar players in my band now use them as well. You just have to make sure that you buy a size in which the center hole is smaller than the head of the strap button. (Common sense, I know...)
EDIT: Ah, got you Jimmy. If you're only using one strap, strap locks are definitely the way to go...

Not meaning to dis you JM....I do see your concern....as I also use Dunlop strapLoks too. They don't work on my Viola bass either.
That neck strap button is a real pain in the ass on a Dano. I use a decent quality Levy's strap on mine and the leather is jammed in so tight behind the neck joint it's never coming off. Apart from that I think gaffa tape is the only solution without moving the strap button. Totally worth it though, everything about a Danelectro is cheap and nasty and badly put together and completely brilliant. If the only way of playing them was holding them up with my teeth I'd still do it, I love them so much.

you guys have made me fall in love with the idea of getting the dano. if garry tallent can drill a hole in the horn, i guess i can, too. my wife and i had a $100 limit this year so we could spend more money on our vacation in january, so i will have to sell something off, but i don't think that'll be a problem.

ok, so i was just looking for pics of garry tallent using his, and found pics of both him and jack bruce using one, and they both have the strap button mounted on the very very tip of the horn. looks like it can be done but a lot can go wrong. oh well, just a drill, right? however, it's plywood overlaid with masonite and it could crack or something. what's the best way to drill that and keep it from cracking? piece of masking tape on the spot i'm drilling?

It just my memories of an single pu Dano-o I had the the late 60's early seventies. It played like crap, no truss rod, adjustable bridge?...not.
I do very much wish I still had it.....pulled a Pete Townshed on it......oh hind sight!

ok, i went back and got it, and their repair guy drilled a hole in the horn for the straplok, and it seems to have worked perfectly. then i brought it home, showed my wife what she got me for christmas, and put it away, not to be opened till christmas. oh well...them's the breaks.
Exactly - that system certainly doesn't work with most Fender OHSC's...

I had the same problem, as i usually use the Planet Waves locking straps but they wouldn't fit on my 90's Longhorn Pro. I just got a 2" bison leather strap from Lakota Leathers at a guitar show (after seeing that it was flexible to fit) and got some metal washers at Lowes. I've only got a Danelectro gigbag so fitting in the case isn't an issue.
i have the longhorn from a few years back that dosent have the rosewood bridge with a set of flats on it i love it. Never played flats before but i know now what people eithe3r hate em or love em.
ya, flats would be wild on it, but i've decided to just put a set of rounds on it and leave them forever. i'll probably switch them to a lighter gauge, though. the strings on it feel like 45-100 so i'll at least go to 40-95. but i'm really excited about getting one, even though i have to wait a month. i have always loved them ever since i saw rinus gerritsen playing one with golden earring in the 70's. then my bud riff west played a hondo ii version with molly hatchet in the 80's. not the same, though.
Good call Jimmy, a Dano is a fun bass to have around, and for $200 you can't lose.
At least on my 2 DC basses the tuners have not been an issue. They stay in tune just fine... they are the repros from around 2000 though, made in Korea. Not sure about the newer ones.
I'll tell you that a set of TI flats on a Dano is a great sound. They sound great with rounds as well - that's why I have 2

I normally just use duct tape to keep the straps on....
I've tried the straplocks thing, but then I'd just forget to pack/somebody would steal the strap, and there I'd have to spend an extra $20 on the locks - I gave up the second time it happened.
The duct tape works, and the glue comes off with a hot, damp rag.
