Dang Noisy Jaguar!!!

Wow! What A GREAT thread.
I bought a Jag and unfortunately, the headstock was damaged in shipment. The store is reshipping and paying for the return so that is cool.
I did try the bass thru my amp and I heard the buzz that you are all talking about. I will definitely try the copper tape fix and report back.
One thing on the bass I noted right away was that the active treble cut wheel (the one between the act/pass switch and the bass cut wheel on the left) was defective and free rolling...anyone having trouble with their wheels?

Been looking through this thread since I got my jaguar bass last week.
Am going to try the copper tape, but am also going to solder in a ground from the bridge to the input jack. I did it on my Geddy Lee and it is quiet as can be. I have never tried it on an active bass before, so we will see.

Well I didn't get a chance to shield the cavities and connect to the pick guard. But I did add a ground from the bridge to the open spot on the input jack. A world of difference!!! I'd say about 85% noiseless without any shielding.

I'm going to look into that... although my Jag isn't rally that noisy to being with. At least, not any noiser than a regular J bass.
+1 Just a very tiny bit of buzz now & then but no more than any Single Coil Equipped Jazz bass I've Owned. Mine was built in 2004, 1 of the very first but I got it as new old stock several months ago. This is the most under rated bass around. Get 'em while you can.
I should also add that since this thread started my bass is rewired. I now have a "three knob" Jaguar. Volume, Volume, Tone. Like a jazz bass. When the pickups are in series, I have independent volume control over the bridge and neck pickups. When in parallel, the first volume knob control both pups (kind of like a Pbass). The bass is still active, and the boost wheels operate the same way. The pick up on/off switches still work the same way... however an additional switch was added that allows me to switch the phase of the bass. I didn't so the wiring myself, it was too complicated. I had a local luthier do it.

Will hopefully get to the shielding today or tomorrow. This, along with the ground I added, will hopefully get all the noise out.
Ok, so I am on my second Jaguar and I have the same grounding problem. None of the fixes here helped with the loud hum.
Then while looking at the cavities with the conductive paint, I realized the the paint is about 2mm short from the rim of the cavities! So the cavities weren't completely sealed! I added copper tape to the rims of all three cavities...and...BINGO...quiet as a mouse.

Hum? What hum? My 2006 (Japanese) Fender Jag bass is dead quiet both Active & Passive with no modifications at all (apart from new strings)!!
