I just want to say that I have nothing against you, Mike. I have never talked to you, never asked you any direct questions. But a lot of the things I do see you say are informative, and I respect what you say. After all, you are one of the pros here. I am just defending someone, someone who has few else to defend him, who I consider a friend, who I look up to in many ways. He has been nothing but good to me. He has helped me on many occasions; directly and indirectly. So to me, he is a good guy.

If you disagree, that's all well and good. You, as well as everyone else, is entitled to their opinion and feelings, as am I, and I can do nothing but respect that. In the end, you can't change my mind, and I can't change yours.

And now, as XG suggested, I am done. Off to bed for me.

1) people show different faces all the time, and all of us can only judge them based on our own experience.

2) please notice that english is not my first language. so some of my posts maybe worded not exactly elegant. i certainly don't have any personal issues that i need to get over. all i wanted to express is that i found the biography on his site really inappropriate, no matter who wrote it.
but from my limited experience with dann i suspect that he'd write something like that himself.
besides i don't see anything especially aggressive in my post: "if he wasn't so unimportant to me" could perhaps been expressed as "if my interest in his person and the strange wording of his biography was big enough to pursue..." . i don't see how someone needs to be defended against this, there's no harmful accusation at all.

3) if you write things like

... Dann's virtuosity, and love for the piano is undeniable. DG's gift for original thinking is ubiquitous in both his orchestral music, and jazz piano improvisations.
... amazing sonic depiction of the Vietnam War, and ultimately Symphony No. 5's breathtaking beauty

and mostly likely write this YOURSELF you can't expect people to take that seriously.
(even if he didn't it's bad enough, then he should have disagreed with the author).
hybris has never helped people to appreciate your work.

finally let it be said that i appreciate your readyness to protect your friend and defend him against others. that's a character trait which isn't found too often in our society anymore.
