Dark Folk Bass

I just released the first track from my solo bass dark folk project YouTube, Bandcamp. I'd love feedback on what I'm doing, and recommendations for other musicians who are doing something similar. The only other solo bass music I'm aware of is jazz, funk, or some type of ambient post-rock. I think the low tones of the bass make finger-picked folk songs sound dark in a way that can't be captured with regular guitars, and I'd be surprised if no one has tried to do this type of thing before.

Your "Russian Folk Song" sounds nice, and yes the tone/timbre of the bass suits the genre. By the way, are you playing an acoustic bass on the track?

I do solo bass stuff and have recently been using an acoustic and arranging songs in a folkish style. I don't think what I do is dark folk per se, but I am kind of interested in that scene/style.

Very nice although I got tired of the constant rhythmic plucked figure. You needed a less nervous section. The band Hugo Largo got me playing chords in the early 90s., also my Carvin 4 string that had a straight ebony fretboard set neck and almost infinite sustain. Hugo Largo was a late 80s NYC band with 1-2 bass, violin and voice, sometimes guitar. This is their 2nd album, some people like the first better. check out "Half Way Knowing"-the chorus is beautiful
