Is the only place to buy a Dark Star Pickup direct for the $200 list price? I've been searching, but that's all I see, and I just wanted to make sure that there isn't a way to find them a little cheaper. Thanks.

Fred Hammon (who designed them) still personally winds and hand-assembles each DS, I believe (Email him and check if you want to know for certain). Because they are quite work-intensive and not produced in mass quantities, I think Fred is keeping the price where you saw it. As the owner of 2 DS'd basses, I can tell you they are worth it and I don't blame Fred a bit.
And from Behringer ... that would be about right ...
... Man are they GREAT pickups ... I have one in a Lakland, and a second one on the way ... in a custom build LeCompte VB-4

I definitely don't doubt their quality, and it makes sense that they would be expensive if they are hand wound. I was just asking, because "list" usually means "random price that actual retailers never sell at."

Fred's a great guy...I have two Dark Star'd basses, and he was easy to deal with and very helpful both times!
