Forgot about this bass. Pretty cool.

Nothing much gets done over the holidays.

I was on the Lakland site and saw their bass with darkstars. Not natural finish though. I still like that burnt orange Gibson.

1...the neck is awesome...i love the rosewood board and the rosewood headstock is gorgeous

2...I love the body especially the faux pickguard of rosewood

3...I don't know about the "f" hole....it looks a little bit contrived...perhaps if there was an ebony veneer or something in there to make it look deeper.

4...with two dark stars...I'm certain that it will sound tremendous!

what are you putting in for a preamp, bud? or are you going passive V/T/V/T ? (les paul-like)

The 'f' hole is awesome. It's one of the things I like most about the bass. It adds to the classic bass vibe. Since I'm the designer I can do whatever I want. :p :D It doesn't look like it in the photo, but it's actually quite deep.

No preamp. Passive wiring, vol, blend, tone, input.

Just my two cents, (my last two cents by the way). I love the contrast between the industrial and the pastoral tones, reminds me of my home back on the kansas plain. Also, despite the thousands of different definitions for the word, its a little emo'ish. Like something the Get-up kids would have made a video around. Man I sound corporate. Keep on dude.

P.S.
I love the F-hole, It'd look bland without it.

Wow my mouth actually dropped when I saw that, it's quite seriously looking like what I have been considering making for my next project (though I am getting a bit ahead of myself there).

But none the less that is one beautiful bass. Congrats on making such a beaut and I particularly like the walnut accent and the shaping around the neck/body joint.

if there is a cavity there, then it would look ok...perhaps the photos aren't doing it justice and I have to see it in person...

when you're finished with it, how about sending it over here to australia so I can have a closer look? ;)

ohhhh...i forgot about that...that's an awesome touch, too.

Bud, please don't take any of my comments the wrong way. I think the bass is fantastic!

ohhh...and, of course, the 4th hole is for the jack :hiding: (I knew that)

V/B/T classic controls...IMO, passive IS the way to go, especially with the DS's...one can always use an outboard pre, if necessary)

Is Fred Hammon winding the two dark stars so that they hum-cancel each other when used in tandem?

Love the bass itself. Pretty unique, in an appealing way no less - and that's not easy to pull off. Could do without the notched headstock but that's nitpicking and we all understand the distinctive headstock thing.

I was wondering what it would look like with hardware before the fact but that's an after-the-fact thing for me less drawing up various combos in advance and eliminating what I wouldn't like more than would like probably.

The "pewter"/black combo mirrors the pups but I'm guessing black bridge and Tuners would be more to my tastes. I don't think it would be too much of the same. Don't like the bridge at all. Stands out like a sore thumb and distracts the eye from the beauty of the bass and looks out of place to me. I think it'd balance better all black. Hard to say though. Truss cover I assume will match the pickgaurd, although black would probably be fine as well. Like the F hole but I've been thinking maybe some accent since I saw it. Pin-stripe around the perimeter (probably not) but I think a backing to match the pickgaurd may work well. Could probably just take a piece of some fake wood looking paper that's roughly like the pickgaurd appearance wise and slip it in to get a feel. May be too late now for something like that and it could be it would look better without it.

Like a painting, you can work too long on it and screw it up.

It's a job damn well done regardless if nothing's changed.
